Younger Children (3 to 6 years old): A version of the parental report specifically designed to capture the unique needs and abilities of young children, ensuring that their use of prostheses and performance methods are accurately assessed.
Older Children (7 to 18 years old) : Offers unique perspectives from parent reports and older children's self-assessments. This dual approach acknowledges the increasing independence and self-awareness of older children, providing a more comprehensive understanding of their prosthetic use and coping strategies.

What is the PUFI-2 used for?

The PUFI-2 is used by children with upper limb prostheses. They can use one or more prostheses depending on their activity needs, e.g., a myoelectric prosthesis, a motorized prosthesis, and/or an activity-specific prosthesis. There are two versions: a younger child version (3 to 6 years old) and an older child version (7 years and older).

What is the evaluation process?

After creating an account, healthcare professionals ask their clients to complete the PUFI-2 by email, and the children and/or parents complete the questionnaire themselves. Clients/families also have the option of completing it during their appointment at the clinic. The PUFI-2 results can help clinicians work collaboratively with clients to inform goal setting and treatment planning.

When should PUFI-2 be administered?

Each clinic/healthcare practitioner can determine when to administer PUFI-2 based on their client's needs and the practice setting. Some examples of when to administer PUFI-2 are listed below. :

Once the client has received one or more new prosthetic devices or any changes/adjustments made to their prosthetic device(s) or treatment plan.
Monitoring prosthetic and functional needs over time.

Context and Participation in Research

The PUFI was created and validated at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital by Dr. Virginia Wright and her team. The PUFI has since been updated with the participation of co-creators from children, parents, and clinicians.
